YOUR VISIT STARTS HERE

Before the door to the panorama opens, the accompanying exhibition takes you on a journey through the history, flora, and fauna of the Amazon - from the geological past of Gondwana through Alexander von Humboldt’s research to the threats posed by rainforest destruction and invasive species.

A short film follows Yadegar Asisi on his research trips through the Amazon. Since 2025, live animals in terrariums - including ghost grasshoppers and giant snails - have complemented the exhibition with fascinating examples of nature’s art of camouflage.

Children experience the 360° panorama of the “Amazonia” exhibition at the Pforzheim Gasometer

During school breaks, the Gasometer turns into an adventure playground for young explorers. With family tours such as “On the Move with Tuki” or “Lure, Shock - Camouflage & Deception,” a daily kids’ quiz, and playful hands-on stations, children and families can experience the rainforest up close - in an age-appropriate, interactive way, with plenty of room for wonder.

An Industrial Landmark with a Rich History

Historic gauge and steel structure of the Pforzheim Gasometer as an industrial monument

Built in 1912 as a storage tank for the city’s gas supply, the Pforzheim gasometer is now one of the last surviving bell-shaped gas storage tanks in the state. Carefully restored, this industrial monument combines the engineering artistry of the Industrial Revolution with the monumental panoramic artworks of Yadegar Asisi.

Yadegar Asisi The Panorama Artist

The artist who creates other worlds. Not just pictures.

Since 2003, Yadegar Asisi has been implementing monumental 360° panoramas that captivate people all over the world. For AMAZONIA, he traveled deep into the Brazilian rainforest to compose an image - drawn from thousands of photographs, sketches, and research - that not only shows but also evokes emotion.
